The Cocker Spaniel, originating in Spain, first came to the United Stated on the Mayflower in 1620. Usually wagging its tail, this cheerful breed is charming, friendly, and easy to train. They are good hunting dogs and retrieve when under command. Physical characteristics of the Cocker Spaniel include long silky fur, long hanging ears, and a cute upturned nose. Their grooming routine will include regular brushing and a trim every few months to avoid matting of their fur. These lovely dogs are good with children and get along with other dogs. They were recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1878.
